Dear Math Dept. Head:

I am interested in the availability of a secondary mathematics teaching position at High School. As a prospective teacher and alumnus of Hoffman Estates High School, I would be honored to begin my teaching career in a school district recognized for excellence. Please accept my letter and attached resume for consideration of any mathematics positions that may become available.

I will graduate in May, 2003 from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and certification in Education. I will complete my student teaching experience at High School at the end of spring semester 2003. During my clinical observation experiences, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of grade levels, math levels, as well as the opportunity to observe a variety of teaching strategies. These experiences have helped to contribute to my enthusiasm and passion for mathematics as well as my desire and dream to be a mathematics teacher in the secondary level. In the classroom, it is my philosophy to make learning fun – incorporating games, group work, and projects. I encourage guided discovery for a sense of accomplishment on the part of the students, and I firmly believe in "learning by doing". I am fortunate to have had many opportunities in my related work experience to try and incorporate the different techniques I have observed, learned, and in some cases, derived on my own. I also have a vast knowledge when it comes to technology, and believe it would benefit both students and faculty. I am familiar with a variety of mathematical tools and software, some including: Geometer’s Sketchpad, TI Graphing Calculators, and Maple. I am also familiar with Web Authoring as well as all of the Microsoft Applications. I pride myself in hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, and creativity and hope to be given the opportunity to contribute these qualities to High School.

In addition to students’ development within the classroom, I feel that students’ development outside the classroom contributes to their overall growth as cultured individuals. I consider myself as a well rounded, cultured individual because of the many activities I have involved myself with. I hold a deep passion for music and theatre, I take pride in being certified in CPR, and I also volunteer my time to various ministries at my church. I am interested in contributing my talents and efforts to the theatre and music departments, softball team, and perhaps helping certify faculty and students in CPR. I have an eager willingness to participate in extracurricular programs, and welcome the opportunity to sponsor or coach any activity or sport. In closing, I would like to request a teacher candidate information sheet or any other materials necessary to be considered for a teaching position at High School. Any additional information regarding my professional preparation and experiences are provided in my resume, which is enclosed. For additional information please contact me by phone at 847.331.6284, by email at razberry@velvet.org, or visit my website at www.homepages.luc.edu/~rzeier. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Rebecca A. Zeier
